Day by day
Times that protect a connection are prominent. Flexible sightseeing stays deliberately loose.

Arrival day · Schönbrunn and the historic center
Protect the early departure. One cabin bag each.
Nonstop, 1h45. The selected round trip was €489 for two when checked.
Reserve a 12:30 Palace Ticket. Interior visit is about 75 minutes; the park is free.
Hofburg courtyards → Graben → Stephansdom area, then dinner and an early night.
Delay fallback: if the flight threatens the timed entry, use the free gardens and historic-center walk rather than stacking another paid attraction.

Rail west, then Mirabell and Hohensalzburg
Breakfast first; the Vienna hotel is beside the station. Use the reserved seats.
Obtain the Guest Mobility Tickets at check-in or pre-check-in.
Keep this loose after the transfer.
Use the all-inclusive ticket for the funicular, museums, viewpoints and Prince’s Chambers. The city card no longer pays off.
Traditional Salzburg cooking; choose it only if it suits the evening.
Village, Bone House, museum and the lake
Use one OÖVV Freizeit-Ticket for both adults. It is valid after 09:00 on weekdays; do not substitute an IC.
Return fare is €8 per adult and cash only. Keep €16 plus a buffer ready.
Market Square, lakefront, Protestant church exterior, Catholic parish church, cemetery viewpoint and St Michael’s Chapel.
Allow an unhurried lunch and about 90 minutes in the World Heritage Museum.
Coffee and photography, then return to the ferry dock by 16:45.
The 17:15 ferry protects the regional-train fare strategy.
Weather switch: visit the museum immediately after arrival, then do the village outdoors later. In excellent weather, the optional €18-per-adult South Lake cruise can replace—not add to—the museum.
Cog railway up, alpine trail down, evening rail
Hotel Europa must hold both cabin bags until the evening connection.
Change at Strobl. Both buses are included with the Salzburg hotel’s Guest Mobility Ticket.
Reserve the one-way ascent. A weather-dependent 08:50 extra train may run; use it only if confirmed.
Enjoy the ridge before the descent. A hut stop is optional; carry water and a substantial snack.
About 9 km and 1,200 m down via Schafbergalm and Dorneralm. Proper shoes, poles and safe conditions are essential; cross tracks only at marked points.
Change at Strobl at 15:41 for the 15:45 Bus 150.
The Guest Mobility Ticket remains valid on checkout day. Walk to Lebzelter and check in around 19:30; call if arrival could slip past 21:00.
Safer variants: use a Schafberg return ticket (€122 for two; €36 extra) if the long descent is unsuitable. If the mountain is closed or clouded out, use included Bus 150 for the free 11 km Fuschlsee loop, or choose the easier 4.8 km Bürgl Panorama Trail. Skip muddy or exposed paths in unsafe weather.

Mountain promenade in the morning, panorama cruise in the afternoon
Lebzelter is a participating hotel. Confirm the cards cover today before leaving.
Walk to Postplatz, then ride six minutes to the valley station. The Guest Mobility Ticket covers the bus.
Saturday operation is 08:00–17:00. Use the early hours for clearer views and an unhurried walk.
Easy 2.5 km route toward Sonnkogel, about 1.5 hours and +56/-154 m. Add the short Sisi path if conditions are clear; a mountain lunch is only a recommendation.
The half-hourly service leaves a generous buffer before the boat.
Board at the Esplanade 15 minutes early. Panorama cruises run hourly from 10:00 to 17:00.
Steinerwirt is one option, not a commitment. Settle the hotel bill, arrange the key return and buy breakfast for Sunday’s train.
Weather rule: both activities are planned. Drop the mountain only if the operator closes it for wind, storms or technical reasons; keep the cruise and lakeside promenade.
The early train creates the flight buffer
Bring the packed breakfast and use the pre-arranged key return.
Do not switch to the 12:53 train; its 17:22 arrival leaves too little resilience.
Use Westbahnhof lockers if available. Walk toward MuseumsQuartier; Glacis Beisl is an optional lunch recommendation.
A €5.40 through fare per adult. Target airport arrival around 17:15.
Nonstop return. Recheck the gate and S7 operation that morning.

Final checks
Nothing here blocks the trip. Each item simply has a specific recheck or fallback.
Rail works may alter local times. Recheck both St Wolfgang buses and the direct 17:37 R3 to Zell 48 hours ahead; finish the hike by 15:00.
The trail loses about 1,200 m and can be steep, exposed or muddy. Use proper shoes and poles; take the return train if either traveler or the weather is unsuitable.
The OÖVV Freizeit-Ticket starts at 09:00 on weekdays and excludes IC, Railjet and WESTbahn. Keep the 08:30 bus + 10:04 REX unless you reprice the route.
Lebzelter must issue it. Reconfirm before the hotel cancellation deadline that both the summit return and one panorama cruise are included on Sep 5.
No useful September forecast exists yet. Wind, storms or technical closures can stop either mountain railway; follow operator status and use the listed lake-level alternatives.
Passport nationality, dietary needs and accessibility needs remain unknown. Verify documents and both travelers’ comfort with the planned terrain.
